In the spirit of this holiday, here's a list of 5 ways you can celebrate your own health and fitness, regardless of gender identity!
Good health starts within. Too often our lives are so busy that we forget to remember ourselves. Spend a little time thinking about what you want for yourself and what fits your wellness goals. Practicing yoga, meditation, and even a daily drawing habit can help push you toward a more healthful and balanced life. I've been using the Headspace app recently and highly recommend the app's simple approach to starting a meditation habit.
If working on the inner stuff is important, spending time outdoors is vital for your health, too. Take a long walk, go for a hike, play a sport, or spend some time at the lake. Fresh air, sunshine, and moving your body can have a major impact on your emotional well being.
Learn something new
There is nothing like stepping out of your comfort zone. It might be a stretch and sometimes a little uncomfortable, but those growing pains can pay off. Try taking a new fitness class, learning about ayurveda, or jumping on the Zentangle bandwagon. Anything outside your normal routine has the ability to encourage growth, which opens our eyes and sometimes new doors.
We hear about how important eating healthfully is all the time, but feeding yourself well and consistently can be a real challenge. Be gentle with yourself and start small. Learn a new recipe, take a cooking class, or just focus on getting in your green leafy vegetables every day. Find out where your food comes from and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Eat because it nourishes your body and find healthy foods that taste good! Some of my favorite resources for recipes and nutrient information are the Good & Cheap cookbook and My New Roots.
Get a massage
What better way to celebrate a holiday than with a massage? The benefits of massage can’t be overstated. Massage can help with many common issues, from an old sports injury, scar tissue, stress relief, headaches, fibromyalgia, TMJ, anxiety & depression, or just good old health and wellness maintenance. You can book a session right online.
But really, there is no reason to wait for a holiday to focus on your health and wellness. Each day is a chance to celebrate YOU and your health and good well-being is part of that.
